The neighborhood
Active listings by segment today.
Valley Village was long considered part of North Hollywood; residents sought a separate name, and the City of Los Angeles recognized Valley Village as a neighborhood in the early 1990s.
The neighborhood is flat and laid out on a regular street grid. Single-family streets hold modest 1940s and 1950s houses — bungalows, traditional and ranch designs — many remodeled, expanded or replaced. Along and near Magnolia Boulevard, Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Chandler Boulevard and Colfax Avenue, small apartment and condominium buildings are common, and newer small-lot homes and townhomes have been added on former multifamily or commercial lots.
For condominium and townhome purchases, review HOA documents, reserves and any special assessments; for small-lot homes, confirm what the homeowners’ association or maintenance agreement covers.
Just north of Ventura Boulevard
Ventura Boulevard’s restaurants and shops in Studio City are a short drive south on Laurel Canyon Boulevard, Colfax Avenue or Whitsett Avenue. Closer to home, Magnolia Boulevard and Riverside Drive carry local shops and services, and Valley Village Park is on Westpark Drive.
The North Hollywood arts district and its theatres are just to the northeast.
Getting around
The Hollywood Freeway (SR-170) runs north–south through Valley Village, and US-101 is at its southern edge. The Metro North Hollywood station — the end of the B Line and a stop on the G Line busway — is a short trip northeast, and the G Line’s Laurel Canyon station is nearby.
